Confused...?

Question

I started bleeding on 8/17 and miscarried. Saw the doc on 8/24 and ultrasound showed that I had passed everything naturally. My uterus was empty :( Blood draw on 8/26 showed levels at 499. My doc called me the day after to tell me the results. All she said was that my levels were going down (down from what?, never had a prior test to compare to), and that we can try again after I get my next period, and to call her if I had questions. 
I called yesterday because she never told me what my levels were and I wanted a copy of my bloodwork. The OB nurse called back and said I needed to get another blood draw and that my numbers need to be under 10 or I'll need surgery!?!? Why didn't my doc tell me this? 
I'm so confused! It just dredged up all the emotions again. Like torture to go get blood taken. Ugh. Did my doc see something (nothing) on my ultrasound so she wasn't concerned about my levels? 
My next blood draw is scheduled for next Thursday 9/10.

The levels she's talking about are your pregnancy hormones. Those don't go away immediately when you miscarry, so you have to get bloodwork done to show that the levels are going from "definitely pregnant" to "definitely not pregnant." If this was the first time you had any bloodwork done, they probably mean the numbers are "going down" from what pregnancy hormone levels generally are when you are pregnant. If you took a pregnancy test right now it may still show a positive; your pregnancy hormones have to go down to "not pregnant" for you to try again. The surgery would be a d&c, a procedure done if a natural miscarriage doesn't happen or doesn't complete. Baby could be gone but your uterus could still act as if it's still there, preventing you from having a period and being able to conceive again. I had a natural miscarriage in January and had bloodwork done 3 or 4 times before I was cleared to ttc again. Fortunately I didn't have to get a d&c but I have a friend who had blighted ovum that had to get one done because her hormone levels were not going down.

I went through the same thing...had to get blood work done 3xs before she told me I was cleared. It sucks. I'm sure your numbers will continue to decrease. Mine took a few weeks but they did drop completely. Hang in there.
