What can you tell me about csections?

I just found out I have to have one scheduled for Thursday because baby is breech. I’ve been prepping for a vaginal birth this whole time and now that it’s sunk in that I will be having a csection I realized I know nothing about them! Any tips or words of advice from mamas who have been through it before? Do they give you any type of medication for the pain afterwards/how does that interfere with breastfeeding?

My first c-section was in October 2017 for my twins. It went smoothly I thought. I didnt have any issues during the surgery except extreme nausea from all the medicine. About 6 hours after the surgery they started giving me regular intervals of pain medicine and Tylenol. I was on Oxycodone 20mg the first day and then 5s after that. I was sent home with the 5s but cut them up into fourths because I didnt need them that much. It did take longer for my milk to come in. I really had to pump alot and also feed alot of get even a couple ounces. My babies were already supplemented so once they figured out my supply was low I just switched to formula completely. Some tips would be
1. Always take the medicine when scheduled the first couple of days. You dont want to feel that pain especially when youre trying to enjoy youre new bundle of joy. 
2. Accept help. My husband was my rock and helped me shower, go to the bathroom, and everything in between.
3. Walk. Not a ton. But walk as they will let you so you dont get to sore. 
4. Ask for the catheter to be removed asap. That really helped me lose some of the water retention and helped get me up because I had to get up to go.
5. Bring youre own shampoo and soap. You will feel amazing and be comforted by having those regular use items.

I have had 3 c-sections. They gave me Motrin as well as Percocets with Tylenol in them. I was able to successfully breastfeed all three with minimal issues. The best advice is when you’re cleared to do so get up and walk around a lot. It makes you recover faster. It’s definitely a difficult and painful recovery, but I was almost pain free within a week. Make sure you have someone around to help you recover after you’re out of the hospital and do not pick anything up besides your baby.

Okay well i had a scheduled c-section. The night before I was completely terrified. I was crying and maybe got 3hrs of sleep at the most. The day of I was crying before leaving for the hospital, but there was nothing to be scared of honestly. I got to the hospital and they got me prepped, which basically was getting shaved, putting the iv in, getting registered. They had to take some blood to get my blood type. About an hour before the c-section they put some anti acid in my iv and then they gave me some anti acid that tasted like sour grapes a half hour before the c-section. They then took me back to the operating room and gave me a spinal. Which they numbed the area first then gave me the spinal. It started working right away. They help you lay down, put a screen up in front of you, and unfortunately they tie your arms down. Not tightly or uncomfortably just a safety measure for the doctor and nurses. The doctor will then pinch the hell outta your stomach which you wont feel. All you will feel is warmth. You'll be buck naked and feel like you have a warm blanket on. The spinal might make you sick but the anesthesiologist will help you feel better. I ended up puking, which is a weird feeling since the spinal makes you numb from the boobs down. The doctor will start the surgery and the most uncomfortable part is when they are getting the baby out. Basically it feels like a ton of pressure right on your chest. But after that you'll have your baby and your significant other will be able to hold him/her and you'll get to see your baby while the doctor is fixing you back up. Then your done they will take you back to recovery. I got to do skin to skin and try to breastfeed. The spinal wears off after about 2hrs. The worst for me was the spinal made me sick. Anytime I would move I ended up throwing up. I got some medicine that helped me stop and feel better. I was given narcotics every 4 hrs and then motrin every 8 hrs for pain. You'll be given blood thinners threw injection. It is the most intense pain out of everything. You'll bleed like a period for weeks after. You'll also have a catheter put in while in surgery. The iv and catheter come out the next day. And you'll be able to take a shower and everything. Itll be hard getting up and down for awhile. But overall its not a horrible experience and you dont have to deal with labor pains.

I had a c section last week due to preeclampsia.  I had no notice so no mental preparation for it.  It went quickly and painlessly,  the tingling as the feeling was coming back into my legs was the worst part for me really.  Recovery wise,  I was given Motrin and Percocet at the hospital and most of the time I declined the Percocet because I didn’t really need it.  It only hurt to sit up or twist and it only hurt at the incision site so if I minimized that I felt fine.  Now I’m feeling pretty much normal just tired more quickly.  I have been pumping as my baby is in nicu and my milk came right in and did so in abundance.  I’m sure it’s not this way for everyone but it was much easier to deal with than I thought it would be.

You can totally have a breech baby vaginally! Try to find a doctor not so eager to increase your risk of complications and cut you open! It’s hard to find doctors to deliver breech because they have stopped teaching it in medical school but anyone over 50 or so should know the technique and be willing to deliver if they are any kind of doctor! Some doctors are studying under midwives to learn the technique as well, but there are doctors out there! If you aren’t comfortable with surgery, search one of these doctors out! Best of luck!

From your spelling I’m guessing you’re in the US. I don’t know how different that is to the UK but I was on 3 different types of pain killers. One of them was morphine, then it moved onto paracetamol and diclofenac. These painkillers are fine during breastfeeding. It will take longer to heal and so make sure you have some good support around you once you’re out of hospital as you won’t be as mobile. Make sure you have some comfy clothes to wear so you don’t wear anything that my sit across your scar. Chances are you won’t be able to feel the area for a while, as three months later the area with my scar is still quite numb, but it will help with healing and comfort.
