Pacifiers???

Question

Im not to worried about it since i still got some time left (im 6months) 
So im in a bit of a debate with my SO
He wants to get a pacifiers but i dont see a use for them and some kids get "adicted" to them. 
Anway my initial question is 
How do you gals feel about pacifiers? 
And 
What are the pros and cons?

My 2 mo did not like pacifiers until I got the soothie kind and now he loves them. That being said, we decided to use it as a way for him to calm down without depending on eating every time to console himself. He can use it at any point in the day, even during naps occasionally if he’s having a hard time taking a decent one, but we absolutely do not put him to sleep at night with it. It will fall out and he’ll wake up and cry for it and try to depend on it all night. My husband is studying to be a dental hygienist so he wasn’t in love with the idea of a paci, but our son will suck his hand and thumb if he doesn’t have it and for us the paci is better than him growing up thumb sucking.

I never intended on using them, and with my first we resisted until she was over a month old, but she was always really unsettled. When we introduced it she slept so much better. Same with my son, we waited to see if he needed it, and he loves it for comfort at bedtime. 
I’d stay open to it, but don’t force it straight away, just see how bub goes first

My philosophy was it's much easier to break a pacifier habit than thumb sucking. My daughter didn't take much interest in the paci at first but when she started putting her thumb in her mouth, I pushed the pacifier. I'm glad I did because she was done with the paci by the time she and a toddler but my nephew is 7 and still sucks his thumb.

I wish my daughter would have taken a pacifier. It probably would have helped in those terrible newborn days, but she never liked it. I say get the pacifiers and when you feel they are old enough just ditch them. It’s not like they have a drug-like addiction to them and will go through withdrawals.

Pacifiers help remind babies to breathe while sleeping. For this reason alone, I'd never not give my child a pacifier. They also help them learn how to self-soothe as well. Babies won't get "addicted" to them unless you let them. Some have them for 2+ years because their parents are too lazy to take them away and don't feel like listening to them whine for it. Plain and simple. We tossed our daughter's pacifiers in the trash between 12 and 15 months and never looked back. Super simple. Within 2-3 days she stopped asking for it completely. All future babies will be offered them as well.

We weren't intending on using one (I was about of a snob about it before I became a parent) but after a few ER trips with reflux and milk allergy in her first few weeks we ended up buying one on the way home from the hospital one night on the advice of the nurse and another women who was in hospital with her child too and we haven't regretted it. It calmed her so much when she was uncomfortable and upset, really became a comfort for her. Plus it also reduces the chances of SIDS, which honestly with all the reflux and vomiting, was a big comfort for me too.

My daughter really loves hers but she was born at 35 weeks in nicu almost a month. A paci was her self soothing device and kinda still is. I’m thankful for pacis as it taught her how to suck and breath at the same time which helped when learning how to bottle feed.

I did not want to use a pacifier at all. However, my daughter had other ideas. She comfort nursed like crazy to the point where I left the hospital with bleeding nips.
The nurse took pity on me my second night and had a heart to heart with me about it. I chose to give her one so that everyone could sleep.
Go into it with an open mind. Newborns are very oral and that’s how they comfort themselves.
