Do you call your step mom, “mom”?

When I was a little girl I accidentally called my step mom,  mom one and she looked me dead in the face and said “don’t call me that again” 
I never thought about it till now but she already had a kid so it’s not like she wasn’t a mom. Idk why she got so upset over it and I never will. 
If I had a step kid and they wanted to call me that or accidentally did I would not mind. I think it’s sweet to say you think of someone that way.

My two stepsons call me Jessie and have since day one. We refer to me as mom but after the past with their bio mom I won’t push them to call me mom.
