Question

So the scenario: two working parents who have a toddler, and want another baby in the near future.
Option 1: mom works three 12 hour long shifts each week only needing baby to be in *daycare from 6 to 2 for three days a week since Dad is off work at 2 everyday.
Option 2: mom and dad work the same job from 6 to 3 each day. They work together, can carpool, and drop off and pick baby from daycare together. Baby is in daycare 5 days a week.
**The daycare is at Dad's work...
Which would you rather do?

I picked option 2 bc option 1 seems like the parents wouldn't see much of each other. Mom at work and dad off. Then dad at work and mom off. Parents need time together as well

I would do option 1 if it were me. Yeah 12 hour shifts would suck but if you only do it 3 days per week then you have 4 days of no work and more time with the kids.

Depends on the daycare and costs. I'm a daycare teacher and I've worked at WONDERFUL places and TERRIBLE ones. It really depends. If I loved the school and could manage the costs without trouble, I'd do school full-time to carpool with the whole family.

Option 2. Baby will be just fine in daily daycare. Especially if it’s only until 3:00. The routine will be good. And then everybody gets to spend a lot of time together every day.

I've been a teacher in daycare, and my choice is to have my children not go to daycare as much as possible.

What does daycare cost? Does mom like each job equally and do they offer the same career trajectory? Does mom enjoy being at home alone with the kids all day?

So option one has no career advancement and minimal raises. Option 2 has tons of opportunities for advancement and raises every 6 months... Also amazing benefits. I love being at home with my baby, but I want to make more money so we can provide him with more towards a better future. It just so hard so decide.

I had to laugh because I do option one. Man it’s rough putting all of the hours into three days but I LOVE having two full days besides the weekend with my toddler. I don’t know how sustainable it is though. We are constantly talking about whether or not we need to re-evaluate our family and work schedules. Because it’s a lot. But option two is a lot too. Good luck in your decision making! :) I hope you find what will be a good balance for the three of you.
