How do you know when to become boyfriend or girlfriend?

How many dates about or how long do people make it official....clearly I’m inexperienced. But I’m nervous that I won’t know exactly when to become official if he asks. I’m just scared of it being premature....

When you both feel absolutely ready. If he asks you before you’re 100% sure say you want to continue taking it day by day that’s better than rushing into it & having to break up with him.
