Does formula helps in gaining weight ?

My milk supply is low and he is not gaining weight , so just wondering to introduce Him with formula.
Will it help in gaining weight ?

My babe was a premie so I had to breastfeed and then feed him formula after each breastfeed to supplement. If you do it that way, you shouldn’t have any effect on your supply. Talk to your pediatrician about how much formula you should give. I would recommend meeting with a lactation consultant as well to figure out what is causing your low supply.

Yes. But supplementing with formula will likely harm your supply. If you really want to breastfeed, I’d put baby to breast more frequently rather than supplementing with formula. And possibly try pumping and supplementing with pumped milk. Unless directed to supplement with formula by a lactation consultant.

Yes! I didn’t know I didn’t have low milk supply and baby girl was losing weight. I started pumping and supplementing with formula which definitely helped with gaining weight. My milk never came in so we switched to just formula and she is thriving! Talk to you pediatrician about what works best for you 🙂

I bring my boys to a nutritionist at their pediatricians office. They have always had a hard time gaining weight because they were preemies. When they were on my Brest milk they were not gaining weight so the nutritionist had me fortify my breast milk with formula (one that nutritionist chose) and gave me a specific recipe to follow for a certain amount of calories they needed. They are now on full formula because they prefer the formula over my breast milk, but one of my boys gets a extra 1/2 scoop in his bottle because he needs 3 extra calories than his brother. 
So I would talk to your pediatrician and see what they say and I’m sure they can help you out so your little one can gain the proper weight he needs 🙂

It absolutely will help! If he's not gaining an appropriate amount of weight, then I'd definitely look into other options. Making sure your baby is healthy and gaining weight is far more important than worrying about your supply.
