Are we intimate

My boyfriend says we're not intimate, but we have a very active sex life and sometimes we throw in a few things. However he won't explain what his definition of intimate is. I try my best to tell him things and ask him questions etc. What do you guys consider intimate, how do you create intimatecy between you and your partner? Help!
