His there a such thing as letting a baby sit up too early?

My MIL insists that I shouldn’t let my baby sit up. Weather I’m holding him on my lap in a sitting position. Or if he’s in a boppy propped up. Is there any real danger to this?

You definitely don't want to put a newborn in a chair designed for an older baby or prop them up in the boppy if they can't hold their head up. As long as you're letting your child develop at their own pace then you're fine.

I said no but then realized yeah you dont want to be propping a newbown into a sitting position. So it depends how old exactly your baby is but if they have some head control then it's probably fine as long as it's not too long.

It's recommended they develop the skill on their own through lots of supervised tummy time. If you leave a baby all the time in a propped up position for too long it can harm their spine. But it's fine for short periods throughout the day.

I've always allowed my daughter to grow and develop at her own pace. She never liked laying down as a baby so I always allowed her to sit up whenever possible (she also had excellent head control from birth. She was never a wobbly newborn lol). She sat up on the couch, in our laps, on the floor, on our hips, etc. with no problems. She loved it. She was sitting unassisted by 4 months.
