Help me

What happens when a medical bill goes into collections?? I cannot afford to pay it off I already have a credit card bill as well because I used it to pretty much afford the things I needed, I didn’t receive any pay from my job because I didn’t complete the one year requirements for maternally leave (I was two weeks short from completing the year) and now I’m only working part time ☹️
