Is cancel/outrage culture good for society?

I'm talking about how everything is "problematic" if one person in a company or the face of a company dose something questionable there are calls for boycotting.

Lots of people see this as "voting with your money" seeing that a company is punished for their actions so they either die or change.

The other perspective is that if you look you will find dirt on everyone in every company. They question if big companies will even feel boycotts.

I feel I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't expect this world to agree with me. But also I don't have to money to get some of these things to begin with, but other products i can't afford alternatives to.
