Is cancel/outrage culture good for society?

Question

I'm talking about how everything is "problematic" if one person in a company or the face of a company dose something questionable there are calls for boycotting. 
Lots of people see this as "voting with your money" seeing that a company is punished for their actions so they either die or change.
The other perspective is that if you look you will find dirt on everyone in every company. They question if big companies will even feel boycotts.
I feel I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't expect this world to agree with me. But also I don't have to money to get some of these things to begin with, but other products i can't afford alternatives to.

Sort of. I think it’s good that people are speaking out against issues they know are wrong. But I think it’s bad because people are quick to jump on the bandwagon to appear “woke” and they rarely even know the full story. And they aren’t “woke” on the brands they support every single day. And they’d ignore it if you found a flaw in something they love/use. I’m not saying I’m fully aware of everything I use. But I also don’t call any person or brand cancelled or tweet about things when I don’t even know what’s going on beyond a few headlines and what’s trending on twitter

Yes. Discussion of societal problems is good for our culture. Ignoring them only allows for more abuse.

Yes 100%. I am not going to support actors/brands etc when it turns out that they are rapist/racist/mysognistic/sexist/etc or that like in case of brands use child labor. Mistakes are one thing. Abuse is another.

I’m in the middle because I see pros and cons but if forced to choose “yes” or “no”, I’d say yes. Because at least it gets a conversation going and people can look at what they’re willing to support or not from a company or brand. I don’t really believe in automatically canceling things and people, no one is perfect, and even “woke” people make mistakes or don’t have all the info...and people call for canceling them too! I’d say these incidents are better used for trying to educate people or at least let them know what they’re saying/doing is ignorant or damaging. And then it’s up to individuals if they’ll boycott or not. 
But it also depends on what the incident was...

Depends - trendy outrage culture is stupid. Like when you do something just because its viral on Facebook. But in general I think it's good - when you buy cruelty free, or made in America only for example, I think those are beneficial. We support our beliefs with our purchases/money.

To an extent, yes, but maybe not always.
Of course we benefit from talking about problematic behaviors in society and how they affect others but some people go to extremes. Once you get into stan culture it can get a little concerning/threatening.
And there are plenty of people that just really dont care and will not change their behavior. Look at R Kelly. So many people decided they like ignition too much to care.
Also if I got my terms wrong, forgive me. I've not participated in any discussions about this and may not have a good enough understanding of it!

I only voted yes because I’m somewhere in the middle, but leaning more towards yes. This is because I think it’s better to try and make a difference than ignore issues all together. I think if a company has made a decision you don’t agree with, there’s nothing wrong with speaking out against it & stop buying from them until they change.
