Advice? tips? something please!

My last period was on July 9th. I'm now on cycle day 36. I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative, also was taken just a few days before my expected period. I was wondering if this is normal, or should I take another pregnancy test? I'm ttc and this is my first time. I usually don't have a cycle more than 34 days. Advice????
