Why can’t mother sleep?

Hello, I am confused about why can’t a mother sleep keeping the baby at her side (if he/she is not crying) and keeping the lights on? The baby cannot change sides so he/she ll just keep on lying.
M searching for an answer but not satisfied with any.

Are you speaking of cosleeping? A lot of women do it. The reason its advised not to because you can roll over on the baby. Baby can get caught up on blankets, pillows etc. Its generally not safe to do so. I've never fallen asleep with my son as I'm afraid something will happen, further more I want to enjoy my sleep by turning over and laying how I want.

Well... you can. They don’t recommend it because of the possibility of suffocation if you roll over. 
I have slept with all of mine though, because none of them would sleep anywhere else. Most of the time I would put them with their feet touching me instead of laying them right up against me.
