Is my new tattoo infected??

Question

I just got this done on Tuesday (about the size of a quarter, it's supposed to be a very light solid purple) and I noticed this morning that the fluid coming out was a yellowish-greenish color. I've been washing it with non-scented hand soap a couple times a day, applying aquaphor usually once a day, and covering it with a band-aid so it doesn't get rubbed on while sleeping (it's on my upper shoulder area.) The zits were already there before I even got the tattoo. The tattoo itself has been burning/stinging the past few days but doesn't seem to be overly warm, but it doesn't like extra weight put on it (such as an extra layer or backpack strap.) There's also some redness.
Should I see a doctor or just wait it out?

It doesn’t look good to me. But you also shouldn’t be putting a bandaid over it. It needs to breathe. But I would see a doctor or go back to the artist to see if it’s infected.

Yes, that’s infected. You shouldn’t cover a tattoo past the first 24 or so hours. It keeps it too moist and breeds bacteria. You need to get on antibiotics fast.

The yellow-green color of the fluids coming out is a sign of infection for sure. You should be moisturizing it much more than once a day! I would either consult your tattoo artist or a doctor before it gets worse.

I used pawpaw ointment on mine for 3-4 times a day worked really well.

Doesn’t look good to me. Get checked by the artist, and you’ll probably need antibiotics. I only ever washed mine once a day, applied tattoo cream (my tattoo shop brand) or cocoa butter multiple times a day, don’t cover at night, it needs to breathe.

I would get it checked. Also I used A&D multiple times a day for my tattoo, then switched over to Eucerin cream after a week. You could be allergic to the dye, I had an old friend that had that happen. You are also not supposed to cover it with a bandage after the first 24 hours. Good luck I hope it heals better.

Its infected for sure. Your tattoo shouldn't have greenish yellow fluids coming from it. And you definitely don't want to keep your tattoo covered. All of my tattoos they covered for me to go home in and told me to leave it on over night just that first night then to remove the bandage and gently wash it with a non scented soap. Apply your tattoo cream aquaphore is just fine but leave it uncovered from then on out. Don't itch it either. I find that simply tapping on the tattoo helps with the itchy feeling. I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor so they can prescribe you an antibiotic and call your artist to let them know your tattoo got infected. With my artists they will do a free touch up within 30 days of the tattoo. So let them know so that when it is healed properly they can go back and touch up any spots that may get messed up. I have this bee tattoo on the side of my forearm that didn't get infected but my skin for some reason didn't like one of the colors she used..it was this reddish brown color used for the honeycomb part, it basically desolved into my skin. I went back and had her re add it as its never happened before and this lady has done a majority of my tattoos so I didn't doubt her skill or tools...after it healed the color vanished again! I just let it be. You can still see the honeycomb its just not as vivid as it was or as much of it visible as before. Still get lots of compliments in it lol so not too worried...but yes antibiotics and call the artist! Good luck!
