Baby shower gift?

Question

A good friend of mine is having a baby shower this weekend. I am going to go get them a stroller tomorrow, but what is another good practical gift to give? I feel like a ton of people give clothes, and half the stuff people get they never use. They have no family here or anything, and I think they are going to ask me and my husband to be the godparents. They also got a crib already.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Well i have always been told that a baby shower isn't just about the baby, its about the mother two..so think about what she would like after the baby is born..something relaxing, like a nice bubble bath kit or a trip to the spa..

I usually buy a couple bigger outfits (6-9mo) since everyone gets newborn clothes, and sometimes babies can't even wear those straight out of the womb. My brother an I both started out wearing 6mo sizes straight out of the womb. Babies grow quick and will outgrow the smaller sizes super quick. Outside of that, i usually get the practical stuff; lotions, bath stuff, clippers/thermometer/etc, and i also usually throw together a small gift basket of stuff for the mom to relax (really nice lotions, bath salts, loofah, things of that nature, since birth and babies are stressful).

When buying bigger sizes, remember around what season they'll be wearing it! I got so many cute outfits that he couldn't wear. Maybe get them a gift card, so if they need something for the baby they can purchase when needed.

I like to get the baby bathtub and then I put baby towels/wash cloths, baby soap and lotion in it with a baby medicine gift set that has like Tylenol and thermometer and stuff like that in it..and then take cellophane.. Maybe pink for girl or boy for boy and wrap it around the whole thing with a giant bow.

I saw this recently in an email from the place where I did my registry where they listed some very practical gifts that are often never thought of. It says a good idea is to get a meal service for mom and dad for a few days, up to a week, after baby is born. Gives them everything they need to eat well during the chaotic first week.

Diapers, diaper bag, changing table/pad, pack n' play, toys, binkies, boppy pillow,formula (if she doesn't plan on breast feeding), breast pump, and breast pump accessories! There are lots to still get her and the little one to help them out!

My sister just had a baby and my youngest sister and I went in half and got a few cases of diapers, wipes, lotions, shampoo, desitin, baby motrin, bottles, brush, clippers, thermometer, outlet plugs, a blanket, some toys, and clothes all the way up to 12 months.  We put it all into a laundry basket for her. We figured a bunch of the stuff she would need, but everyone forgets to get would be great.  My husband and I have our shower coming up November 1st and I hope they do something similar for us!
