Membrane Sweep

Stephanie

I just wanted to post about my sweep, I literally just had it at 40+2 and I was absolutely terrified after a bad cervix check experience.

I really wanted to help put anyone else’s mind at rest if they’re worried about it hurting because ball I kept reading was about it being agony and horrendous and I got so upset I had a panic attack this morning.

My midwife came to my house, I told her I was worried as I’d been in a lot of pain and very distressed after my cervix check so could we please go slowly and could I ask her to stop if I felt overwhelmed or in too much pain.

She went slowly, I had a towel for underneath me, and one to go over my legs so I felt less exposed.

I made sure to focus on breathing in and out, and it really wasn’t that bad. It was uncomfortable, because obviously anyone putting a couple of fingers up there and feeling around isn’t going to feel good, and towards the end I was like hmm this might be starting to hurt a bit - it was over!

If you’re worried definitely voice that you are very nervous and would like to go slowly and will say if you want it to stop.

Breathing is key! Don’t be worried,

I’m a big baby and I managed.

No idea if it’ll work but I’m not scared to have another one now!

Also I am 1 finger dilated and she managed to touch the babies head so not like I’m super dilated or anything.

Hope this helps!
