What is baby shower protocol?

Question

Do we have to play games? 
If I have it at a restaurant does the host need to pay for everyone's food? Or can we just have appetizers and cake?
If I have it at my house can we just socialize, have appetizers and cake then open presents? 
Do we have to decorate?
I'm not big on the games and I have a little social anxiety so I really dont want to make a big deal of it but I do want to have one.

I would not have it at a restaurant, it could get awkward with people wondering who’s paying for what. Or you could get left with the bill. Showers (both baby and bridal) around here are usually at a hall, winery, church multipurpose room, etc. Some are brunch and mimosas, and some are cupcakes and punch. If you’re paying for it- go minimal and stick to what you like. Until I joined this app, I’d never heard of anyone throwing themselves a shower and paying for anything. It seems things are really different everywhere!

I feel like a house is more relaxing in general but the cost may be lower if you do it at a restaurant (Less food, drinks, decorations, etc). I used to run a restaurant and most baby showers would set up an appetizer table ahead of time and we would just keep refilling it as needed. The guests were told by the servers to order their alcoholic drinks at the bar and that non alcoholic drinks were paid for. You can also do some small decorations at a restaurant if you like. If you don’t like games, you don’t have to do any. It’s your shower so do what makes you most comfortable! You don’t even have to open the gifts in front of people if you don’t want to - detailed thank you notes are just as nice instead. 😊

Games aren't necessary. Guests will not expect to pay for their own food at a restaurant. Apps and cake is fine...but make sure then it is not during a typical eating time.

A couple of my friends planned it for me ... I find a house is easiest. 
I gave them some pointers but they did everything else. The games can be fun (we did games) but they aren’t absolutely necessary. Your baby shower can be whatever you want it to be.

I’ve gone to showers at restaurants and they typically have food options set up more “buffet style” and it’s paid for by the host. I had my first baby shower at my in-laws house and we ordered trays of food from a local Italian restaurant. I did not pay for any of it since it was put on by my MIL. My mom threw one as well since she lives out of state and just had party-style appetizers and desserts. At both showers we played two quick games that were “who knows the mama to be best” and “the price is right” to guess the cost of baby items. Nothing long or drawn out, just something simple. 
My point of this is DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR HOST! There are no real rules on what you should do, where it should be, what food you should serve, etc. except that guests shouldn’t be expected to pay to be there 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you don't want to do games, no one will be upset lol.  Just a thought you could do a casual open house like where people can come and go as they please for a couple hours, so you don't feel like you have to talk to the whole room at once, might help with anxiety.
