Help Me Choose...Work Life Balance
Help me decide what job to take/keep.
Info: Had first baby 3 months ago. Married. Have a mortgage. Husband works good paying job for career field/location (46k). Husband works shift work - 1 month days/1 month nights 2 on 2 off. When my husband is not working, he watches our son. When he is, our FIL watches him at our house.
Current Job: Social Work - Youth Homeless Case Manager
Salary:38,000
Work Week: 35 hour weeks - usually worked more like 45-50 pre-baby
On-Call: 40 days per year including a weekend every other month (on call being 24 hours - so overnight calls. Potential to go in at any time of day)
Great co-workers - feels like family
Small non-profit
Job is secured by grants - current grant got renewed for 5 years
Close to home - 5-10 minutes

Job can be extremely stressful at times and due to crises can often lead to after hours work ( I’ve worked from 8am to 10pm before)
Expected to facilitate group once per month after hours
Often bring work home - mentally
Family friendly and flexible - I have the time in with them that I can take off whenever which is nice for babies dr appointments

Help me choose which to take! My biggest priority in choosing a job is one that will allow me to focus on my child the most and get to spend the most time with them since I don’t have the choice not to work!
