Folic Acid Supplements
Sorry for the long post but I am just wanting some advice. I went to the drs to get the results back from some blood tests and to confirm a pregnancy. The dr said everything looked good, hcg levels were good and I’m not deficient in anything. He then goes on to give me a script for folic acid supplements and instructs me to take 1 in the morning and 1 at night. I told him that I am already taking Elevit - a prenatal containing folic acid and he said that’s fine take these too. He told me when I go to the chemist to pick them up that they would tell me it’s too much folic acid to take but to ignore them and take it anyway. So I go to the chemist and sure enough they were hesitant to sell it to me saying its far too much to be taking with elevit when I have no deficiencies or other clear reasons to warrant taking them. They refused to sell it to me until speaking to the dr who instructed them to give it to me. After they spoke to the dr they still advised against it. So I didn’t get them yet because they made me too nervous to take them. This wasn’t my normal dr as I have just moved an hour away from my hometown and haven’t got a regular gp yet. Just wondering if anyone else has been told to take this much folic acid for a pregnancy? Can too much be harmful? Should I just take it or go to another dr for a second opinion?
