Dry conversations help

My bf is a older than me so it’s kind of hard to “relate.” Some people say that’s what should keep it interesting because we can learn new things from each other but there’s nothing really interesting about our lives besides the fact that I work alllll day & so does he. We only go out after work or when both of us are off. Recently, it’s been very silent between us. Even in the messages it’s like we have nothing to talk about, we’re not even interested in the same topics. I ask about his interests and try to dig in deeper but he’s a short answered person and sometimes it feels like he doesn’t even want to talk to me, like he’d prefer to be on the phone. Sometimes I’m afraid that maybe someone else entertains him more than I do.. or someone else can actually get him to converse. Obviously I don’t want to lose him, but I wonder if it’ll last. Yesterday he basically told me he doesn’t care about me as much as I care about him but it’s getting there.. & I may be stupid for wanting to stay but I just want to give everything a try before I can say “ok, this isn’t working out”
