HCG blood test false negative?

Do you think it's possible a blood HCG test could give a fals negative? I'm two days late (I'm normally very regular), no signs of AF, sore breasts, fatigue...but had a blood test done at the doctors and they said it was negative. Just wondering ur thoughts...
