Calling out sick from work the day after my wedding
I just started a new job about a month ago and I am getting married this June. We are not going on a honeymoon right away or anything so I didn’t need an extended period of time off from work. I didn’t mention when I got the job that I was getting married because it didn’t feel necessary since I didn’t need time off. I’m also naturally quiet and not the type to talk about my personal life at work. If someone were to notice my ring and ask, I would have no problem telling them but besides that, I haven’t brought it up since I’m new and don’t talk to people too much yet.
The problem is I am getting married on a Sunday and I am thinking now I would really like to take that next day (Monday) off. However, I am not allowed to use vacation time until I’ve been here for six months. I can however use sick time. Would it be weird or a bad idea to just call out sick that day? No one knows (as of now) that I’m getting married and I feel like it’s my time to take regardless. I’m also not changing my name or anything right away due to other reasons. I would just talk to my boss about it and ask but I’m worried if he says no then I will be in a tough position. What would you do?
