First post: Anatomy scan and tough news

Je

So it’s been a week since we went in for the anatomy scan, I woke up, went to work and was so excited for the appointment. My boyfriend and I were sitting there watching our baby on the screen. Everything was going well. We were talking to the tech, we told her we didn’t want to know the gender since we were having a reveal that Saturday. She told us when to cover our eyes. Of course or baby was being difficult, had its legs crossed but finally the tech found out. Then she started looking at the baby’s heart. 5 minutes later the doctor came in and she started looking at the heart. We just thought the baby was being difficult. I had to turn from one side to the other and back again. Then the doctor turned to us and said that they noticed something on the scan. The left ventricle is smaller than it should be. She said it’s called Hypoplastic left heart syndrome HLHS. My eyes started to get watery. She said it can have a chromosome disorder and we should get an amniocentesis done. Then she said to think about termination and my eyes lost it and the tears we’re pouring out. The hardest thing I ever heard! They scheduled us for multiple appointments the next day. An echo of the baby’s heart, talk with the genetic counselor and the amniocentesis. We decided to still have our gender reveal where we told our friends and family and found out we are having a BOY!

We have another anatomy scan next week. At the moment my boyfriend and I and scared and nervous and don’t know what or how to feel.
