Why is the first response to trouble always “get a divorce”?!

Dani

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t believe in staying in abusive relationships.

But it seems that every relationship post I see the advice is inevitably “leave him!” Or “file for divorce!”

I don’t know why there aren’t more people advocating counseling or communication. It’s like people are saying “my husband made me feel bad because my food sucked” and right away people say “don’t tolerate that he’s a jerk!”

When I made my vows, they were promised to continue even when it seemed unfair or impossible.

Why do you think so many people today are unable to tolerate distress of any kind and are quick to quit?

Like I said, this doesn’t apply to true harmful or abusive relationships. But just because something is difficult and uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s harming you either.
