Avoided being induced! Long Post.
By 18 hours! I put a post up yesterday, saying that I think baby is waiting for his Daddy's birthday, and I guess I was right!
I've been quite upset about the possibility of needing to be induced, but accepted that as long as he arrived safely and healthy that's all I could ask for. We had it set for 9am Saturday. This morning I went to see my partner while our 3 year old was at nursery, but we both just slept (partner works night shifts). Woke up, went and got my Son from nursery, went back home so he could say happy birthday to his Daddy, and then Grandad (my Dad) took him back to his so I could spend a little bit more time with my partner.
At roughly 1:30(ish)pm, I started getting contractions. Downloaded a contraction timer app about 15 minutes later. Didn't start timing them until nearly 2pm (was trying to sort out a bag for our Son). Managed to time 2 before I told my partner to phone the hospital. Got off the phone to the hospital and phoned my Dad at 2:20, telling him that he may have my oldest a little longer because I'm heading to the hospital. Got to my partners car, and set off. My waters broke (in the car) at about 2:30-2:35. Got to the hospital about 3 minutes later, partner parked in the drop off bay and got me a wheelchair. The lovely person at reception told him he could keep his car there for a little while as it's not in the way. Got to labour and delivery, partner made a comment about going to move his car and I looked at him with tears in my eyes and said "please don't leave me". Got into a room, partner helped me get my trousers and knickers off. I got on the bed, and immediately needed to push. Baby arrived at 2:53pm. If my partner had gone to move his car, he would have missed the birth. Shortly after I delivered the placenta.
We had a few moments for ourselves before the midwife came back in with some toast and a cup of tea for me, and weighed baby while I had that. She asked how much my first weighed, and I told her he was 7lb 11oz, she then asked if I was ready to hear how much baby weighed. He's 9lb 8oz. I had no time for any pain relief, and I didn't tear. Partner then got a note asking him to move his car, but at least he was there for babys birth.
Because blood pressure and loss was fine, I was told that if I wanted to leave I could. I said yes, she started on the discharge papers. I walked out of the hospital just 3 hours after having him.
We currently don't have a name for him, but he's here. My partner is over the moon that they share a birthday. He says it's the best birthday present he could ask for, and seeing me happy again makes it all worth it.
