How can I keep cat off my bed ?

I don’t want my cat to be sleeping on my bed , he hardly does because I don’t let him and when I see him I tell him to get off , is it safe to use cat repellent on sheets ? Or is there anything else I can do to get him not to be on my bed ?

I let my cat sleep on the bed, but she used to jump up on the counter, I didn't want her doing that, so I used a one of those computer cleaners that puffs out air, she didn't like the air puff and stopped jumping on the counters. I was kind of cheap about it but you can get air sprayers/puffers that have motion sensors so the cat doesn't even know it is coming from you and you could set it up where your cat usually get on the bed. 
Another thing you can do if your cat always jumps on the same spot is put some double sided tape where your cat "lands". Cats don't like the sticky feeling on their feet but it doesn't actually hurt them. Again they associate the feeling with the place they are jumping or scratching not you.  When my cat was kitten she used to scratch on the corners of my futon, she stopped after I put the tape on the corners even after I took the tape off a couple days later.
