When to call someone for help...my story!

Chelcie • 28. Mum to 2 girls 🫶🏼 UK

Hi girls, thought I would share a little story with you!

Today I hit 34+5. The last couple of weeks I’ve had swelling in my ankles, and feet and as ive been told a millions times! That’s normal in pregnancy.

So that’s what you go ahead to believe.

Recently this had been leaving “ pitting odema “ which is when you push down and it leaves a dent.

This raised alarms however I didn’t have any other symptoms of preeclampsia. Which is what they ask you over and over.

Fast forward... I woke up today at 4am ( uk time ) with THE worst headache I think I’ve ever experienced. I couldn’t get back to sleep and I had work in a few hours..

I started feeling sick so I phoned up the maternity ward at 5.30am, explained everything and she said to call the day centre when it opens.

I did.

And I was in being checked by 9.30am. Bp was high 147/97 ( 140/90 is classed as high in pregnancy ) so I was borderline. However mine is usually around 120/70 so I could see it was raised!

I had protein in my urine also!

Stayed on a monitor for a long time until they were happy with baby.

Eventually I was seen by a dr and I ended up being admitted into the maternity ward ( where I am now )

I am on 4hrly BP and waiting for a scan ( which probably won’t be today )

I am borderline preeclampsia so it could be that or just pregnancy induced hypertension.

Still waiting to find out for definite.

Either way, I just wanted to say. Please get checked out when you feel like something is wrong.

I know it’s scary and you don’t like to waste people’s time ...I’m one of those that get anxiety over a phone call and being “ that patient “ that worries too much!!!

But the relief I felt when I saw that I had all these symptoms ( relief- weird right !? )

But I just felt so glad that I listened to my body.

Everyone should do the same because you never know when you may really need medical attention!

That is all I have to say, look after yourself and listen to your body!!!!

Please share any stories or experience if you wish 🙂
