Should I let my sons father keep the money?

I feel like I’ve already made up my mind and will not give him the $1,500 he’s asking for. I’m basically a single mom because he is not on child support and I NEVER ask him for money. He’s there for my son twice a week and that’s basically it. My son lives with me so i claim him in taxes. His father has been arguing with me about this because he feels like he deserves half of what I get in return. He wants to buy a new car so he’s been asking me for that amount should I just give it to him?

Tell him sure. You'll give it to him but you will also be bringing him to court to get child support.  As you should. 
Child support isn't for you. It's for your child. You can do it on your own. That's great but then that money can be put into a savings account for college. Or a car at 16... Sports...

HELL NO! 🛑 ✋ Keep that money for you and your son. That’s putting your son first. Don’t waste money for you and your son on a guy thats a dead beat that doesn’t pay child support. A good man wouldn’t have even asked you to take money away from your son to spend on himself for a car. Be strong girl. Put you and your son first. Put it in an account for your sons future

If he does not pay child support,  he has no legal claim to it and it and it does not sound like he deserves it so I would say no.

It is usually based off of who has the child more if there’s no written agreement stating otherwise. I wouldn’t give it to him if he doesn’t financially support the child.
My son’s dad claims him every other year, but he pays child support every two weeks so I figured that was fair.

You need to ask him for money or put him on child support. He’s the father and if he’s willing to help let him. That tax money is yours. If he feels he has some rights to it then decide on what your son needs and the money should go towards that. It’s not your responsibility to buy him a car. I would put him on child support though or ask for some money for your son- if he’s asking to help let him.

I wouldn't give him the money and I would make him pay child support. Why does he think he deserves it because he's the father? He doesn't provide for the kid. Hell no broke dicks get nothing from me

And why does he feel he gets this money? He in no way contributes to his son, if he paid child support then I would say sure split it, but he doesn’t so therefore that makes up for it. But not really because he should be paying wayyyy more than that. You worked the refund is yours.
