Closed Nipple Piercing

So a couple days ago (maybe a week ago) I took out my nipple piercings. Today (I am on day 1 of my period) I noticed my right nipple had a small crust patch on where one of the holes were so I of course went to go clean them out. In the mist of that thick white discharge was coming out both ends of where the holes were for the piercing but only when squeezed. They don’t itch or hurt. Are they infected? Or is this just a normal healing process? They don’t have an odor either. Both of my nipples are doing this now when squeezed.
