IUD after birth?

Can an IUD be implanted after birth or is the cervix too open at that time? I've never had one and I never want a Nexplanon again. Just checking my options.

They wait until your follow up appointment. My biggest concern was it’s effect in lowering breast milk production so I didn’t get one right away anyway

My doctor made me wait until 8 weeks to put my IUD in after my first.

That’s what my doc and I had planned, but because my water had broke and I didn’t give birth until 2 days later, they were worried about infection so they wanted to wait until the first follow up appt.
