Controlling boyfriend?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating 6 months. Well we have a problem and every time we talk about it he gets so upset. The problem is i like to see my family sometimes and they live 5 hours away in a different state. Since we have been dating I’ve went and visited a hand full of times but before him i went to see them a lot.  Well he doesn’t like me leaving at all, doesn’t want me to go because it hurts him when i do leave, he says my life is with him now and family will always be there and me and him will go visit them in the summer. But he doesn’t understand that i like seeing them, that’s my family. He doesn’t get that opportunity. Today he got upset because i told him i was leaving during the weekend and he got so upset and begged me to stay.  He has done little things in these few months that are a little controlling but i dont know if it’s because he loves me or controlling me? What should i do?

He shouldn’t be guilting you into staying with him at all, this is highly controlling and will only get worse. 🚩
What about him? Does he ever go see his family or friends if you like it or not? Its only 6 months, you aren’t married so your life isnt with him yet. And it shouldn’t be if he’s trying to keep you from seeing your family. He should want to be involved with people and things that make you happy. He should want to be involved with them too.

Honestly. This a big ass red flag!!!!!  He is trying to stop you from seeing your family.  I go see most of my family when every I want.  The only one I don’t is my mom that is not because of my husband it’s because she lives on the other side of the country. 3 hour plane ride just to see her. If she lived only 5 hour drive away I see her as much as I want.  
Come on how does it “hurt him when you leave for a weekend?!?! Been with my husband 16 years. Sure I miss him if he was gone for the weekend but it would NOT Hurt me.

It’s a little controlling. You have to set your boundaries and if he respects what’s important to you, you will figure it out!

You need to leave NOW! Not when you think it’s too much! It only gets worse from here. This has nothing to do with love and everything to do with control over you with will only get much worse!!!! It’s gonna eventually turn into calling names if it hasn’t yet, then maybe a push, to a slap then before you know it he’s hitting you each time he’s angry even if it’s nothing to due with you. Before you know it you’ll feel trapped and it’ll be scary to leave he may even make threats! I’ve been in an abusing situation such as this. It only gets worse from here! Ask the others who have been able to get away because unfortunately you can’t ask the ones who haven’t!
