UTI???

i’m 13, and last year (i think) i had this thing where quite a few times, it hurt down there and when i peed, and i just read something on here saying if you leave utis it can cause kidney infections. but i haven’t had it since, or only a couple of times a tiny bit, and now i’m really scared and spiralling... can anyone shed any light on this????

Classic symptoms of UTI are burning when you pee/feeling of pissing knives, abdominal pressure, feeling weak, feeling like your bladder is squeezing when you pee, and cloudy or smelly pee.  A UTI is an urgent matter and will not resolve on its own.  You need to tell your mom so she can take you to an urgent care and get you antibiotics immediately.  Don’t be embarrassed, it’s a very normal problem.  But do be aware the doctor might ask if you’re sexually active.  Maybe persuade your mom to stay in the lobby.  It’s important to be honest with the doctor.  Whatever you tell the doc will remain confidential.  It is illegal for him to tell your mom you’re having sex, so don’t worry about that.

If I’m understanding you, you are worried you have a kidney infection because it hurt to pee a year ago a few times? If that’s the case just calm down I’m sure you are fine. It sounds like you may be especially sensitive though and may be prone to infection so if you ever have symptoms again I would bring it up with your parent/caregiver to get you checked out. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about, people get UTIs all the time. Just a matter of letting a doctor know and they’ll have you pee in a cup in a private bathroom and test it with a dipstick.  Just make sure you are wiping front to back and don’t use scented or harsh soaps when you wash down there. You’ll be ok!
