Do you take ovulation tests to track your irregular periods too?

Do you take ovulation tests to track your irregular periods? If I miss and we aren't trying it doesn't really matter. Because then I just KNOW I didn't ovulate. But when you're trying and you do have irregular periods (I'm on CD 77), do you use them anyway just for your sanity? I've never used them before and my doctor told me not to worry with them. But I could imagine if I was trying, I'd be losing it by now - more than I already am. I just wonder if others are like this and take them more for their sanity than using them for timing of sex.
