Autism

. . I couldn't find a group on here that deals directly with this. . So I want to ask if any of you ladies are raising autistic children?

My SO mentioned to me he thought it was odd that my 2 yr old didn't speak yet. I passed it off as him just not being ready and he will talk when he wants to. He said he thought maybe he could be autistic. So I said I'd take him to the Dr just to be sure. Anyway I went in there expecting for the Dr to just say 'everything will be fine, kids go at their own pace etc'

But that is not the response I got.

First she gave him some problem solving things to do, watched him play for a while. . Called out his name etc. He did not look at us or even come over when his name was called so she said maybe it's a hearing problem and gave me a referral for a hearing test for him. Then I said 'oh at least it's just his hearing my SO thinks he's autistic' then the Dr said 'well I am thinking that too but I wasn't going to mention it until his hearing test came back just incase but seeing as you brought up Autism, your son is displaying some odd behaviour and seems to fit some of the boxes for Autism except for the fact that he's very affectionate. I'd like to send you to a pedeatrician to have him evaluated'

Those words hit me like a tonne of bricks and I must admit I'm dying on the inside a little. I keep trying not to get too uoset and hoping it might just be hearing but I've noticed things too. . He gets extremely upset at loud noises.. won't play with other kids. . Lines his toys up. . I keep tearing up but I don't want him to see me cry.

I never thought I'd be a raising a child with a disability and I love him no matter what but I'm so scared.

Can you please share your experiences with me?
