Ranting 🙄

Okay I am a very open person and always try to respect other’s opinions. However I’m seeing polls and posts about this a lot lately in other groups and it’s making me crazy: DEMANDING Whooping Cough/ TDAP vaccine being mandatory for others.

Now I fully respect and understand that moms are just trying to protect their babies from pertussis. However, I’m seeing so many mean and nasty comments and moms willingly keeping their babies away from parents, grandparents, friends, etc for not wanting to get the vaccine! Until I was pregnant and my doctor mentioned that they typically give expectant moms the vaccine, I didn’t even know this was something adults get. And after some research, I realized that it is in fact rare for someone to get pertussis- even though majority of adults don’t get the vaccine! And even with the vaccine, you can still be a carrier of it!

Why instead of demanding family members to have a vaccine, just ask if they are willing? And if they say no, ask that they practice smart health choices? Wash hands before holding the baby, no kissing on face or lips, please don’t visit if you have a cough/cold/feeling under the weather. Because it seems like you’re more likely to come in contact with it at the grocery store than a family member...

Anyways... I just think some moms could be a lot less nasty to their poor parents or siblings than they are currently being. It wouldn’t sit right with me if my sister said, “go get this vaccine or you’re not allowed to ever meet my baby.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
