Sex Anxiety

Kristin

So I recently started having sex for the first time. I’m a little bit of a late bloomer, 24 years old, so I’m having to learn a lot of things that most people have figured out already. My main concern is about the anxiety that comes after sex about STI’s and pregnancy. Since I’ve never been sexually active before, I’m not on birth control yet but I am in the process of getting on it. I’m using condoms, and I’ve educated myself a lot about sex so I know that its not actually as easy to get pregnant as my religious abstinence only high school teachers scared me into believing, but there’s still just this uneasy feeling and anxiety I have in the following days that is filled with “what if’s”. And it doesn’t help put my mind at ease about what my options are in the chance that I were to get pregnant with all the policing of women’s bodies that’s happening in our world right now. I know that it will get better once my birth control is fully working in addition to using condoms, but for the time being I’m just always slightly in a state of worry which makes it harder to enjoy myself. I’m just not sure if there’s anything I can do to make myself calm down sometimes. Any advice?
