Grand mal seizure!

Hi, has anyone experienced a grand mal seizure? Can you describe how it differs from epilepsy? What are your experiences?

Some weeks ago I had two grand mal seizures and was admitted to hospital. I never had a seizure before and the doctor put me on Keppra 1000mg every day together with folic acid. Didn't have any other episodes since then but I'm still trying to understand what might have triggered the seizures. Is there a possibility that I'd be off medicine some day?

I am asking these things as most of the time doctors do not explain everything and when they do, they are not very clear unfortunately.
