I was on birth control pills (Junel-Fe) for about a year before switching to depo. My experience with Junel-Fe was OK. I gained 13 lbs. I was 98lbs before and now 111lbs, which was a good side effect for me because I have always wanted to gain weight. My period was pretty regular, it was always light and lasted 3-5 days. My skin: ok. Sex drive: about the same before I wasn’t on any type of birth control. I don’t think it helped me with my depression though. I would almost always feel down unless I had a distraction.

Just last week I took my very first depo shot. No crazy side effects yet, (after all it’s only been a week) but a creamy discharge, backache here and then and high sex drive. The only thing that worries me though is that I’ve been feeling very low for the past few days. I’ve heard horror stories about depo, continuous spotting/heavy period and depression.

Question is, how do you cope with depression while your on any type birth control?
