What do you think of these names.
My suggestions which husband liked
Girl: Eleora meaning light of God
Boy: Jerome meaning one with a holy name.
His suggestions:
Boy: spurgeon or Alistair inspired by those famous preachers and Carson a famous scientist
Girl: Sonia. Inspired by Carson's mom who enabled her kids to value education and be what they were even when she was a single mom n didn't know how to read.
Well, here is the problem:
I love unique names. I don't want to think of someone I know every time I call out my name. Also I don't fancy popular people or stars because I don't think anyone is that perfect for me to name my child after.
My husband on the other hand doesn't mind common names. He picks names he has heard before or of people that inspire him. At first he wanted biblical names like Paul, joy, grace, but at the thought of those, 5+ people shoot to my mind and I just remember some of the things they did. But since he loves Christian names, I decided to look for unique Christian names. And sent him some, and he loved the above. I love Eleora but I don't like Jerome so much because I know one kid named that and I don't like his behaviour but it is the best name that husband chose among the many that mean holy that I suggested. I really fell in love with the meanings before I even got the names so it wasn't easy finding names that have the meaning of what I would love to be spoken into our children's lives when they are called.
Originally I was all for unique and I loved the name Esmeralda, for a girl which he rejected...too fancy he said. So I think it was a nice balance to get Christian names that are unique.
But we need middle names too. We agreed he chooses the surname and later agreed all kids take his surname. But I feel like he won't have named the kids really because his father chose his surname so I feel it doesn't count. (It ain't a custome where we live for kids to have the same surname as the father). I really want him to name our kids. So that they also have a name from him. I heard that when someone names something, then they "have control" over it because it somehow become theirs. Anyway, just want him to name the kids too, but he hasn't come up with a name that is unique for me to like. I really try to love his suggestions but every time I think of the people I know with those names, I just don't like the name more. And he doesn't see to want to put in the time to get a unique name. It is me who keeps pushing for him to suggest a name.
Guys what do you think we should do? Should I just take his name suggests? Or will I regret it? How do I encourage him to invest some time in getting a name and not just copying from what he hears around him?
Sorry for long post.
