Midwife appointments? Issues with Midwife?

I was just wondering what other people’s general experience was with their Midwife and appointment booking processes etc, as I’m experiencing a bit of a problem!

When I saw the Midwife assigned to me for my booking appointment at 8w, it felt like quite a rushed appointment and I didn’t feel that she took on any of my concerns and it felt like a tick box exercise rather than getting to know me and how I feel.

Anyway- at the end of the appointment, she said I’ll need to be seen again at 16w, and to call her just before I’m 16w to book this appointment. She gave me the number of the birthing centre she’s based at, not her personal work mobile number....

At 16w I started to get anxious about this appointment and I really HATE making phone calls due to anxiety. I never call ANYONE!! But I psyched myself up and called, only no one answered. I tried again at 17w and was informed that she wasn’t at the centre and was out in the community doing visits. I didn’t bother calling again because it’s so difficult for me and I don’t understand whether this is really my job to chase her up? I just really cannot muster up the courage to keep calling and it’s stressing me out! I’m almost 20w and she’s not contacted me ONCE!!

As you may have seen in my other posts- I’ve had ongoing bleeding and cramps (was told it’s a SCH and is a ‘threatened miscarriage’) and been to the EPU, I’m on psychiatric medications that can be harmful to baby and need support with coming off them, I’m under the perinatal consultant for depression/anxiety, and this is my first pregnancy so of course I have no clue what to expect!!

I’m 20w and my Midwife hasn’t contacted me once, despite having all of this going on 😢 it’s really stressing me out and I don’t know what to do! I feel like I should be having so much more support than I’m getting....

Did anyone else have to call their Midwife for their appointments or were they booked by the Midwife and you were sent a letter etc? Do people have their Midwife’s mobile number to text etc? I ask because two of my friends (in a different area) have never had the problem I’m having and they text their midwife all the time with any problems or concerns they have!
