Is Social Media Ruining The News?
I'm not very good at this, but here goes.
I was scrolling through Facebook (yes, I know, not reliable and kind of the point of this post) and came across a post about a little girl who was left with a stranger and they found the mother and are deciding if they should press charges. Now, I was originally going to post about how at least she didn't leave the kid in a trash can, or by herself, just chilling and that maybe less babies would be found dead if they weren't trying to charge everyone. Which then led to me searching the article and I'm glad I did because I found some interesting, albeit confusing, details that weren't in the article I read on Facebook and I honestly find it confusing and intentionally misleading. The news itself even seems confused, so here goes, tons of screen shots coming up.

And now the article from Facebook

The gray screen shot was also interesting because I clicked the read more link and it led to that screen several times.
TL;DR Mother asks stranger to watch her baby briefly and the stranger calls police 20 minutes later. The mother is now possibly facing charges according to Facebook post. In the actual article found from the news, there are about two sentences that mention the child was left with a stranger who called police after 20 minutes. Then 2 different witnesses stating they saw the child by herself in a stroller, no socks on, wet, with abrasions to her hands and face. Where did this stranger go? Should this person also be facing charges if the child was left in their care but obviously left alone to where witnesses didn't see an adult with her? Am I missing something here? I felt like I was reading about two different cases of abandoned children and wondering if I somehow opened a different article with eerily similar details.
I feel like social media is absolutely ruining the news and intentionally posting halfassed and inflammatory articles that are either uninformed because they're more concerned with getting the news out there as quick as possible or to intentionally cause outrage, panic, drama, etc... all for likes.
Bonus question: Is the news in general becoming lazy in their reporting? Examples: this article that leaves more questions than answers, details that are confusing (intentional or not), misleading or just don't add up. This isn't the first news article from an actual news station that didn't make sense. Now obviously they don't have every single detail immediately, that's nothing new, but it felt like the article was written by 3 different people, out of order and grossly misinformed. About the only thing I got out of it was the girl is safe with family and they are speaking with the mother and deciding if charges will be pressed and what the charges might be. Given the shitty information I got out of that, the police have a mess to work through.
