Late period

I am three days late for my period. I took a pegnacy test last night and it came out negitive. The last time I had sex was a week ago and we wore protection. My friend said it was probably just due to stress because I've been extremely stressed out about school and work lately. How long could it be delayed for because it's really freaking me out and stressing me out even more ?
