Bundy Movie: Disrespectful or Deliberately Uncomfortable
If you haven’t already seen it or heard about it - Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is a movie out on Netflix based around the trial of Ted Bundy. Even before its release there has been a significant amount of controversy surrounding it. The film stars Zac Efron as Ted. Many people believe this sexualizes and glamorizes the serial killer. People also feel that the film skipped over all of the victims, and most disappointingly, Elizabeth Kloepfer AKA Liz (Bundys ex-partner). The director & stars of the film say that the film is meant to be from Liz’s point of view. It is supposed to show the audience how easy it is to be tricked by a sociopath like Bundy. Some people say that Liz was barely present in the film, and that Bundy, unfortunately, was clearly the star. Other people feel as though the film did a great job at depicting the deceitful ways of Bundy. They think Efron is a perfect casting choice and that the lack of screen time for Liz is a good representation of how she felt like nothing without Ted.
Is Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile a good way to tell the story from Liz’s point of view? Or is it glamorizing a serial killer while disrespecting the victims and their families.
