Infected baby belly button or not?

Baby boys stump JUST fell off! Before it fell off it looked totally normal. No changes at all from when we saw his Dr last. But when it fell off it appears to have a puss pocket. Bis Dr's office is closed for lunch right now but my mommy brain just wont stop.

Does it look infected? To me its an obvious yes. But I have no clue what I'm looking for.

It’s fine. Just keep it super dry and refrain from giving him baths until it’s fully healed.

So puss before falling off means infection but after falling off is fine? Thank you!

I don’t think that’s pus, I think it’s part of the umbilical cord that was shielded. It’ll dry out on its own and heal, don’t worry! As long as the area around isn’t warm to the touch or incredibly red, he should be fine. Refrain from alcohol or anything like that, none of that is recommended.

It actually dries out super fast! My son’s was like that and the next day it was dark like the large end that fell off. No putting anything on it was suggested by baby’s physician!

Thank you!!! It fell off around noon and by 3 it was dried up a bit more. I didn't think of it being the cord still! Makes perfect sense

My babies looked like that and I used a w tip and alcohol to clean and dry it out. It's apparently not what they tell you to do anymore but it worked great and I'll be doing it again with this baby

My sons belly button fell off yesterday and his looked like that. I talked to the pediatrician and she said it’s fine. She told me if he gets a fever, redness around the area, any bleeding, or if his stomach seems sore around the area to call immediately and be seen.

This happened with my daughter. I just addressed it at the next appointment and they put something on it (i forget what it was) and it cleared up quickly after.
