What do I do?
I'm so conflicted, hoping someone has been through this same thing and can share their story.
My little guy was 8lbs 1oz at birth, dropped down to 7lbs 13oz, nothing unusual. I have been only breastfeeding, and he has plenty of wet and poopy diapers. But when we went in for his one month check up, he was only at 8lbs 2oz. This means he only gained 5 oz in a month.
The pediatrician really encourages breastfeeding so she's had me start drinking mother's milk and staying very hydrated. She wants to see us back in two weeks. Little guy latches well enough and seems to drink plenty, he has alert and awake moments, messy diapers, and feeds roughly every hour and a half or so. He seems to be doing well but that tiny weight gain is so concerning!
My mom saw him this past Sunday and was concerned about how "scrawny and jaundiced" (her words) he looks. She called me tonight and pretty much put me in a state of panic about his size. Is he too little? Am I doing him harm by not supplementing? Should I stop being stubborn about breastfeeding only?
Anyone else have babies with a slower weight gain? I thought breastfeeding was always the way to go but I'm worried now.
