Changed from OBGYN to midwife!
I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my first and I just changed from an OBGYN to a midwife and I am so happy I did! I had heard mixed, but mainly negative reviews, about the OBGYN I was seeing from the beginning of my pregnancy. I figured I would give her a shot though, because she is the only in-network doctor within 30 minutes of our house. My experience with her and her office staff just continuously got worse and then I finally hit the last straw and made the decision to switch to a midwife practice 45 minutes from us. Best decision ever!!
The midwifery delivers with the hospital I originally wanted to deliver at, because they have a much better labor and deliver area and are the only hospital in the region with a NICU. I'm not high risk, but it is such a relief to know that IF something were to happen and my child needed medical care, that we would be in the same hospital and not over an hour away! All of the midwives I have met so far have been SO nice and welcoming. They made me feel so comfortable and cared for. They actually listened to everything I had to say and remembered. They also comminicated with me about what will happen at the rest of my appointments, explained how there would be a midwife by my side throughout my entire delivery and afterwards, and told me about the incredible lactation support they give.
I was so worried about switching honestly. I did my research though and talked with my insurance company about any possible differences in cost and such. So glad I made the leap of faith! Now I am actually excited for my appointments every time and I'm looking forward to delivery and my postnatal care and gynecological from them afterwards.
If anybody is thinking about switching doctors, do it and dont wait! I only wish I would have switched sooner.
