Should I have picked up the phone? BF RANT!

So I need a second opinion. My boyfriend of five years wanted to call me today (we already talk almost ALL the time, even just staying on the phone for no reason, because we are long distance now due to his job). I wanted to be alone so I did not pick up the phone and I texted him i wanted to be alone. He completely blew up on me, and now he has called off work so he can get drunk. Is this my fault? Should I have tried to make him feel better? (He’s feeling sick).

Am I a bad girlfriend because I wanted alone time when he didn’t feel good? I’m in the blue, he’s the grey.
