VENT: How do you feel about hand me downs?

I hope its okay to vent here. 
I know at one point in my life, I needed them, all the things lol. But my husband and I saved up money so that we buy our own things, aside from what family wants to get for us.
My sister had a baby in April. We were TTC while she was pregnant, and I had so much fun during her baby showers. She got such nice and new things. All kinds of stuff for her baby! My family said, that'll be you one day. I said that's very nice of you, but I hope we can buy our own things too. :)
Now that I'm pregnant, all anyone ever says to me is, your sister saved this, you dont need that, your sister is going to give you hers. I got approved for a free breast pump but I "dont need that" bc my sister has one.
This is her only child, she had a tubal. This is my first, and we plan to have at least 2 more. So I WANT my own things so it lasts for all of my babies.
Maybe I'm being selfish. Why not take her things if she doesnt need them? But part of me is like, why did she get 100% brand new things for 1 baby and now I'm stupid if I buy something new?
Now I find myself hoping for a boy, so I can say I dont want her pink Browns bottle (Which I didn't want to use Browns anyway!) And I can have my own independance when shopping for my baby.
Sigh. Anyone else going through something similar?

Take what you want to use and buy what you don’t want for hand me downs. It’s your life and your decision. That’s what my husband and I plan on doing. I don’t want to reuse bottles, pump, car seats, etc., but clothes, toys, high chair, stroller, heck yes I will reuse!!

I personally don’t mind the hand me downs but I completely understand where you are coming from. You have every right to want your baby to have all new stuff especially because you want to pay for it. Do what you believe is best for your baby regardless of what others want you to do.

I LOVE hand me downs and gladly would take whatever someone had to offer 
This is my 6th baby and know how expensive $$$ things can get or baby doesn’t use it or only for short time

I feel you. I had cousins that all had babies before me. Everybody offered me all their hand me downs. But i was not having it i wanted my baby to have new things. So i politely declined and said ive saw one i want to buy

I completely feel the same way! My bf sister has three kids and has been trying to save her stuff for us since she had her first especially her crib which I don’t want it’s out first baby and she was ready to hand up down her old crib years ago before we miscarried but when she got pregnant with her second she was like u can have my old crib I’m getting a new one like oh too good for your own handy me downs like it’s my first baby I want to pick out my own stuff and my bf and I are very particular on how we want to dress our child and ppl keep giving me hideous baby blankets like outdated ones or stained up clothes or nothing I’d actually put my kid in

Certain things I would buy new such as crib, car seat, etc. Everything else is fair game! We used 90% hand me downs for our first because WOW are little humans expensive. Now I will say that I missed out on the fun of shopping for clothes BUT we only had clothes up until 9 months so I still got to go shopping. I also only buy clothes from a high end thrift store where onesies are $1 each. 
The clothes/baby swings were borrowed so we had to give them back. Poses a little probably for this 2nd baby though lol

My brother got all new stuff since he was the 1st to have a babies. I'm getting loads of their handmedowns and I think its great! Some things, yes, I WILL buy brand new, but lordy, to save a few hundred bucks, I'll take the moses basket, bumbo chair, carrier, play mat, peg perego stroller & pram!!!! I will buy my own car seat carrier, crib, clothes, etc. But a few things is fantastic and wasteful not to be grateful of the handmedowns. I agree that I too have some mild frustration that I too want new things and not ALL handme downs. But I've saved $800 already just by taking the stroller! Why the heck not! It's in amazing shape/condition! I wont take the rocker/glider chair (I want my own, fitting my style) and a few other things.  But most things I'm happy to take. I've been sticking to the gender neutral stuff too.
