6 week old son has recently developed spots on his chest as well as under his chin folds, it looks like milk/drool has got trapped during feeds and it’s irritated the skin..or is it something else?

My son had the same. It was newborn rash or heat rash. Just keep an eye on it and asking as he doesn't have a fever and is eating normal then it's fine.

Just let it air out and lotion if you use lotion.nothing the drs can do for it

Did it start on baby’s face and move down to the chest? My son had a very similar looking rash as a symptom of his cows protein allergy. It was my chiropractor who asked me “has the rash reached his chest yet, it starts on the face and moves down.” I had no idea they were related. We changed to a hydrolysed formula and the rash went away practically overnight! 
That may not be the case for your baby, but maybe something to consider if no other resolution can be found.
