Induction birth story

Ka

I was due on 5/23 but ended up getting scheduled to be induced Monday 5/27.

Well on Saturday night 5/25 I fell down the stairs and landed on my stomach so I went into L&D to be monitored to make sure the baby was okay. Everything looked good and the monitor was showing consistent contractions but nothing that I could feel. So I went home and slept for about 3 hours off and on.

Sunday evening I went into the hospital for a cervical check to see if they were going to need to soften it. They checked my cervix and I was still at 1cm and 50% effaced (I had been at that for 2 weeks). The monitor still showed contractions but nothing that I could even feel. The doctor ended up putting in a balloon and cervidil at 6pm And I was scheduled to start pitocin at 6am the next morning.

Well around 8pm I started getting period like cramps nothing too painful but I couldn’t sleep through them. Those went on until 2am when I told the nurse that I didn’t know if it was just pressure from the balloon or if it was contractions so she told me to go to the bathroom and gently pull on the balloon and see if it would come out. If it came out that would mean I was at least 3cm dilated. So I did and it fell out. She went and checked me and I was already 5cm dilated.

By 7am I was 7cm dilated and the contractions were getting stronger but I was so exhausted from only sleeping for 3 hours in the past 48 hours that I could hardly keep my eyes open and kept falling asleep between contractions.

By 11 I was at 9.5cm and there were no breaks between contractions I was in pain constantly and my body kept trying to push and I was constantly fighting that feeling. At 1:30 I was still at 9.5cm so they decided to put me on pitocin to help me get to 10. By 3 I told the nurse that I needed to push and I couldn’t keep fighting my body’s urge to push so she checked and I was finally at a 10. I started pushing and it was such a relief to be pushing after fighting it for 4 hours. The last 4 hours of labor were 10 times worse than the actual pushing.

I pushed for 29 minutes and Annabelle Mae was finally born at 3:36 on 5/27. I had no tears at all and barely lost any blood. 20 minutes after having her I felt more normal than I had in months. She nursed for an hour and a half then I got up, took a shower and I felt great. Recovery has been extremely easy so far I’ve barely bled at all and I have no pain or soreness.
